Despite being one of the newer freeways in Southern California, the 405 is known to be one of the busiest, most congested freeways in the United States. Truck accidents are frequent given the congestion and the number of trucks passing through the area.

Despite its 72 miles being contained between San Fernando in the north and Irvine in the south, the 405 is called the San Diego Freeway, even though it is roughly 75 miles from the city of San Diego. Since its creation in 1964, the San Diego Freeway has provided both commuters and trucking companys passage through all of the main cities in the Los Angeles area.

The most crucial point of the 405, as it relates to trucking companies is its access to the Los Angeles International Airport. Freight is coming and going at such an incredible rate that at every moment, large trucks are constantly populating that stretch of the freeway. Another factor that affects the San Diego Freeway is the constant work and maintenance that is being done.

With connections to the 110 and 710 freeways, the 405 remains an integral transportation route for many truckers coming from and going into the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach. As such the incident of accidents is one of the highest in Los Angeles and Orange Couty.
